About Us

Live and Play is a partnership formed between two golf enthusiasts, a Dane and an Irishman.

The idea was the brainchild of Mr Lars West, an expatriate Dane, who has been enjoying all the benefits of living and working on the Costa del Sol for the past few years. In the past Lars successfully ran his own company and whilst considering his future, realised he had countless Scandinavian friends who longed to escape the dark and monotonous winters up north and to find some much needed winter sun where they too could spend their days playing golf.

Lars felt duty bound to introduce his compatriots to the lifestyle he was accustomed, not only that, he wanted to build a community on the Costa del Sol where his friends and guests could meet likeminded people and live a social and active life for a few months of every year.

The clear choice of destination for any European must be the Costa del Sol, easily accessible from Scandinavia, over 300 days of sun with plenty of stunning shops and restaurants. However, although the Costa del Sol is scattered with great golf courses, playing golf for a few months either meant becoming a member somewhere or buying green fees every time you wanted to play, this was not a realistic options unless you have an unlimited budget.

Therefore, Lars approached Ronan Maguire, founder of the largest golf network in Spain, GOLF the COSTA. The marriage was perfect, GOLF the COSTA could help Live and Play not only get short-term memberships at an attractive price, it could also give Live and Play guests the opportunity to join an established golfing community, play competitive golf and benefit from the social environment that the GtC society offers.
